George was born on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. He attended college and graduated from the University of San Francisco, where he obtained degrees in economics and mathematics. After getting established in the corporate world, George began to look for other channels to apply his creative talent. In 1974, he opened a small second story retail shop on Union Street in San Francisco. He started his business filling his store with Hippie apparel and artifacts.

Dissatisfied with the imported clothing that was available to him, George began to create some of his own fashion designs. He sent one of his sketches to his mother, back in Cyprus, and she produced sample garments that received rave reviews from his local customers. George then shifted to designing and producing his own collection and his hobby became his passion. He left his corporate job to devote his time to building a successful retail apparel corporation.

Each Georgiou Collection consists of hundreds of styles that are created by a design team under George’s direction in the Georgiou Design Studio in San Francisco. The design team focuses on the feminine figure, ensuring a chic European-inspired style that gives the customer superior fashion and a comfortable fit. Each collection reflects up-to-date color trends, fabrics and contemporary styling, appealing to customers who live both a sophisticated and casual lifestyle. Season to season, pieces can be mixed and coordinated to enhance and build a wardrobe. With over 25 years of manufacturing our designs directly with the factories, Georgiou is able to deliver high quality designer clothing at Ready-To-Wear prices.

Now 30 years later, what started as George Georgiou’s vision in one little shop, has become GEORGIOU, a nationwide chain of boutiques, which continues to cater to women living a fashionable and sophisticated lifestyle.
